Make sure your cutting mat is pretty sticky when place the vinyl on it to cut. Cutting without a mat this option is great because you can cut smaller pieces of vinyl without a mat. Use a sticky mat. If your silhouette cutting mat is brand new you may want to de stick the cutting mat somewhat by blotting it with a clean t shirt.

This will get you to a good starting point. To cut properly the blade must be pushed all the way down with no visible gap between the tool holder and the blade. Vinyl silhouette brand i choose this for regular vinyl including 631 651 silhouette brand and cricut brand glitter patterned and other similar. The angle of the blade goes into the vinyl at a slightly different angle than the regular silhouette ratchet blade or auto blade which again prevents the vinyl from being torn.

I love this option because you can use long rolls of vinyl and cut multiple projects at once. 1 blade is not properly inserted and or locked down. Place the vinyl onto the silhouette cutting mat with the backing paper side down onto the mat making sure the vinyl is covering the same area where the design is placed on the virtual mat in silhouette studio.
